Both of my girls were down for a nap and it was time to snag Pierson from school.
I went in to wake Edie up first… and realized I had to grab my camera.
She was so tired, sweet, tame and slow to wake… which is RARE for this mover and shaker.
I wanted to document my baby. My baby who is not really a baby anymore.
Sure she LOVES the bottle, sleeps in a crib, has about FOUR words in her vocabulary, loves to be rocked and snuggled with mama… but she runs around keeping with the big kids and is catching up with Parx, the Punk Precocious Princess Tot.
This wonderful time of precious zip-up snuggly jammies, blanky obsession, frizzy golden ringlets, bottle bliss, baby yawns, big blue eyes innocently staring into mine and the sweet sound of diaper crinkles will soon be gone.
It’s time for me to cherish these last three months before the new baby comes in to interrupt the role of our “baby” girl… once known as “Easy E” and now known as “Destructo!”
I almost cry thinking about how much she adores my belly, the bump I carry, the poked out button that she has to push in every time it’s visible, the fun bubble she loves to lay on, the growing sphere-like addition to my bod that she pats and kisses and doesn’t realize what’s inside.
The womb that will shortly bring something unexpected into her world.
I pray that this girl loves her baby sister, without any resentment or sadness. That she sees Lake as a beautiful addition to our family and not a thief. May Edie keep her completely quirky and lovey behavior through the time of change, while adoring her three siblings just as much as she does today. That she realizes mama still LOVES her so much… even though I’ll have to pay attention and cater to one more tiny being. May she realize this new baby needs mommy just as much as she does… and Parx… and Pierson… and Daddy too. That there is not a tug-of-war battle between any of my children. I pray that Edie Baby is filled with love and laughter, filling her up with joy, confidence, a purpose and mission in life.
I thank the Lord for this moment… where I was able witness my babe in one of the most memorable moments for a mama.
A simple moment of everyday life that I will soon forget, but have the photographs to help me hold onto a few minutes of yesterday… for as long as I live.
Edie baby.
I love you to pieces.
You will always be my baby love.
